About Pines Presbyterian Preschool

– Margaret Chastain Reed, First Director of Pines Presbyterian Preschool

“Play is the business of childhood. Through play, children learn about their world… Play helps children become active discoverers of the world and develop strategies for problem solving.”

Our Story

How Pines Presbyterian Preschool Began:

In 1970, a group of members at Pines Presbyterian Church decided they should use some of their available building space for a Christian preschool. Meeting in a member’s living room, they envisioned what the school would look like – committed teachers, Christian environment, small class size, focus on developing positive interpersonal skills and mornings spent learning through play. Were those preschool founders to peek into our classrooms almost half a century later, they would feel right at home.

What You Will Find

Visit Pines on any given day and you will find:

  • Teachers who love children and model positive behaviors in the classroom. We really do practice what we preach.
  • Small student-teacher ratios that ensure students receive an abundance of individual attention and observation. We meet children where they are and go from there.
  • Risk-taking and mistakes. We do not seek perfection. We celebrate a block tower that has fallen down as an opportunity to discover how to build it stronger next time.
  • Open-ended questions. We encourage students to speak for themselves and come up with their own strategies and solutions for solving their problems and interacting with the people and world around them.
  • Laughter, song and movement. We know that children learn best when all their senses are engaged. We provide a rich sensory environment where students can learn and explore.
  • Christian teaching. We reinforce the best of Christian values through prayer, Bible stories and all-school Chapel twice a month.
  • Teamwork. Whether it is a class working together at clean-up time, our staff sharing ideas and insights, or our teachers partnering with parents to reinforce goals from home, we know that raising children really is a team sport.
  • Security. A policeman on site every day gives you peace of mind and keeps our students and staff safe and secure at school.
  • And of course, PLAY!
